If you know you are not going to meet a deadline for handing in an assessment (coursework) and you think you have a good reason for this then you should apply for an extension.
Good reasons may include illness or other circumstances which may stop you from being able to complete your work by the set deadline.
You must apply by 12 noon of the working day before your assessment, with a clear explanation of why you cannot take the assessment.
How to apply for an Extension
To apply for an extension:
- Contact your Programme team via Hub Query or email as follows:
- Business, Technology, Law: Query = ‘Assessments’; Sub-Query = ‘I would like to defer my assessments or request an extension’
- Nursing: Query = ‘General’ or email your Programme Leaders if instructed.
- Your Programme team will respond to your query and ask you to complete and submit this form. If you do not want to wait for them to respond, you can also reply via email to the automatic response you receive from your query, and attach the completed form.
Please note, in the description of your query form please write the assessment titles and date that you wish to receive an extension for. If you are writing an email, make sure to put the subject line as “Extension” and then details of the assessment titles and date that you wish to receive an extension for in the description.
Who approves your Extension?
If you are looking to receive an extension for handing in your assessment, this would need to be approved by your School.
The School has a choice to give you an extension of the following;
- One calendar week (7 days) to the assessment date.
- Two-week extension (14 days) to the asssement date. Please note, this may only happen under exceptional circumstances, at the School’s choice, and where the internal scheduling of marking, feedback and examination board deadlines allow this.
How do I know my Extension has been approved?
Once your extension is confirmed, your School will confirm the approved extension period you have received via email to your BPP account.
